Given the equivocal outlook, and Tesla shares’ underperformance versus General Motors and Ford this year, investors might wonder why they should approve a 13-digit pay package that is easily the biggest in corporate history. In fact, though, this highly conditional incentive, payable in shares over a decade, is exactly what Tesla needs.
