The president’s critics stereotype him as rejecting both military action and diplomacy, but he has a record of using both. He struck Syria in 2017 and 2018, killed Iran’s Gen. Qassem Soleimani in 2020, hit the Islamic Republic’s nuclear sites in 2025, arrested Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro last month, and is cutting off Cuba from oil and encircling Iran militarily. On the diplomatic front, he has negotiated a host of trade and peace deals, most notably the Abraham Accords in 2020.
