Generally if somewhat simplistically speaking, it’s not hard to discern whom to root for in a Shakespeare tragedy. Nobody cheers for Goneril and Regan as they wreak destruction on their pitiable father. And while Hamlet may dither in seeking revenge for his father’s murder, we don’t hope that the scheming Claudius gets away with it.
